Last week a fellow blogger, Graceful Creative, posted her responses to a set of interview questionsthat had been posed by another blogger, The Daily Balance. Graceful Creative asked if any bloggers would be interested in being interviewed and I thought to myself, "Hey, that sounds like it could be fun!" Before you read any further, stop by Graceful Creative and check out the wonderful website filled with insights and inspiration about personal growth.
Okay. Now that you've checked out that awesome site, I can let you read the interview...
Question #1: Who are you? Outside of your role as blogger/daughter/friend, who are you?
I'm the girl who instantly thought of the scene between Alice and the caterpillar from the movie Alice in Wonderland when I heard the question "Who are you?" Like Alice, I'm a little confused about how to respond to this question because I'm not sure exactly who I am. I'm still trying to figure out who I am and I sometimes feel as if I have tumbled down into this world, just like Alice.
Until recently, I spent most of my time living under a raincloud, just like A.A. Milne's Eeyore. After twenty-five years, I feel like I'm finally stumbling, blinking, into the sunlight. I'm doing the best I can to see the good in life and what's helped me out the most recently is writing on this blog, Positively Present. I'm learning so much about myself through these daily posts and, now that I've entered the universe of blogging, I'm learning so much from my fellow bloggers (like Graceful Creative!).
I might still be figuring out who I am, but one thing I know for sure is this: every day I'm learning more and more about me and that, to me, is awesome.
Question #2: How do you nourish yourself? What things do you do (big or small) that tell yourself that you're worth it?
The primary way I nourish myself is through writing. Whether I'm writing an article, writing in my journal, writing an email to a friend, or writing on Positively Present, writing of any kind leaves me feeling nourished and fulfilled. It makes me feel great to read something I've written and think to myself, "Hey! That's pretty good!"
I affirm my personal worth by putting myself in situations and surrounding myself with people who encourage and support me. Lately I've been striving to avoid any sort of negativity in my life. Ridding myself of negativity is how I tell myself I am worth it. It's how I tell myself that I'm a worthwhile person who deserves to be surrounded by people and situations that bring happiness and positivity into my world.
Question #3: If you had a whole day to yourself, how would you spend it?
If I had a day to myself, I would (and do often) spend it writing. I would be somewhere fabulous and tropical of course and I would have my dog with me (she doesn't travel, but this is make-believe, right?). I'd be on the beach, soaking up sun, and I would have a great book and my laptop with me. With my pup by my side, I would spend the day writing and writing and writing. Absolute bliss!
Question #4: What three things would you like to do/see/learn before you die?
Before I die, I would like to publish a best-selling book that a lot of people could learn from and relate to. I would like to see any part of the world that's not in the United States (Yes, I know! It's absurd that I haven't left America!). I would like to learn how to live a truly positive and present life.
Question #5: If you were to choose five physical artifacts that represent who you are, what would you choose?
This is hard, but so interesting! After I read this question, I wandered around my office and on my lunch break, looking for things that could be "me." Here's what I came up with:
- Pen. A tool that brings words and thoughts to life.
- Iceberg. You can only see a little bit on the surface.
- Easel. A place where colors, images, and inspiration splatter.
- Puppy. Curious, clumsy, and always learning new things about the world.
- Rainshine. Rainy and sunny at the same time, it's definitely confusing.
I had a great time doing this interview. I'm thankful that Graceful Creative gave me the opportunity to do this because, like everything I do on this blog, I learned a little bit more about myself in the process. If you have the time, I would suggest revisiting the questions posed above and thinking about how you would answer them. Most importantly, give some thought to the big question: "who are you?"

Positively Present, I think you're right: I think we *do* have a lot in common. Your day of bliss is right up my alley and something I sometimes take for granted that I'm able to do, which leads me to your question #3 ... if you ever get that passport in order, I'm in Greece ... just sayin'. :)
Am enjoying reading your blog very much. There's nothing wrong with ridding yourself of any sort of negativity in your life. When you've been steeped in it for so long (like I once was too) it's absolutely essential to not continue swimming around in *any* toxicity whatsoever. This doesn't mean you're a Pollyanna (although I like Pollyanna, I have to say). :)
Cheering for you in this quest. Will keep checking back.

Positively Present,
Thanks for revealing some of yourself. Have you ever thought about creating an "About" page for your blog?
Posted by: Roger - A Content Life | April 22, 2009 at 07:32 AM
Roger - Thanks for your support. On the left, under the calendar, you can see the "About" section. :)
Chania Girl - Ooh, Greece would be awesome! If I ever make it over there I will of course let you know. I'm enjoying your blog as well. It's nice to read about positivity in a world filled with a lot of negative avenues. Thanks for cheering me on! :)

Oops...I don't know how I missed that! I guess I was looking at the links at the top of your blog.

Hi! I would also choose a pen, and then a parchment, a feather, a rock and a pearl. :-)

Roger - Glad you found it. Maybe I should move it up a bit! :)
I TAKE OFF THE MASK - Oooh, very interesting! I like your choices!

Hi PP,
I loved reading your answers to the questions. If I'm reading it right, you're only 25 years old -- you seem wise beyond your years. I get so much inspiration from your words and your blog, so I'm glad the feeling is mutual.
I love that you picked an iceberg as one of your artifacts. I can relate to that. And I like the term "rainshine."
BTW, sorry it took me so long to get over here to comment...my computer is dying a slow death and I'm panicking! If I disappear for a few days, please know that I am in mourning. : (

LOVED reading this -- I love seeing glimpses of people's true self -- love it ;)
p.s. looks like you are already doing a great job living "a truly positive and present life." ;)

I think it is great that you surround yourself with situations and people who encourage and support you. Sometimes it's hard to avoid the negativity, but the more we do, the better off we are.

Kirwin - Thanks for the opportunity to think about who I am and share with my readers. Yep, I'm only 25, but I feel like I've been through a lot...I don't know if it makes me wise, but I've definitely learned a lot. Don't worry about the comment -- I hope your computer gets better. I HATE computer trouble! Best of luck with that!
Shannon - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! :) I'm trying to do my best...it's not always easy, but working on this blog definitely helps a lot. Thanks for commenting and supporting!
Giovanna - You're right. Sometimes it's really hard to avoid negativity, but I'm working really hard to do it and, so far, I've been a lot happier because of it.

YES! Tropical! The only thing you're missing is your cabana-masseur-Margarita person named Javier. (Phillipe? Juan? Sven?)

Hayden - Hahaha. That would be PERFECT!

Tracy - Thanks! :) Me too. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time, but I'm on the right track right now and the blog, and readers like you, are really helping a lot.

we had the same questions but with totally different answers - isn't that what makes life grand! You are a great writer I cannot believe you are only 25. Wise beyond years. Way to live in the present and way to be positive. Have an awesome Saturday.

Denise - Thank you so much! Your words put a smile on my face. I love how we have such different answers. It just goes to show how different and interesting people are. :)
